Barnes grew up on horse and cattle ranches in Texas and Mexico. She is the author of two additional books in this series, "Kelly Karate Encounters the Moon Princess" and "Kelly Karate Discovers the Ice Princess," as well as a produced playwright and screenplay writer. A trained public speaker, she gives lectures and workshops on creative writing, spiritual evolvement and emotional healing. She is certified in neuro linguistic programming, and she works with children and young adults as a hypnotherapist. She also volunteers her services in homeless centers and for teens in crisis. Barnes divides her time living in Texas, Oklahoma and Australia. She is currently working on her next book, "Kelly Karate In Search of the Aborigine Priestess."
